About me

Hello! My name is Manuel, and I am based in Granada, Spain. I work in integration, building the middleware that lets different systems talk to each other. My CV is available here.

My academic background is in physics, which I came to after spending a couple of years studying chemistry. Back at university, I was drawn to the intersection of physics and computation. Although I no longer spend my days thinking about electrons, I feel like many of the skills I developed do transfer very well to the kind of technical work I do now.

Outside of work I actively try to keep my screen time low. Reading is a big part of that, with much of it revolving around Eastern Europe, an interest that has gradually expanded from literature into history and politics. I also spend plenty of time watching films and series. While slower, more contemplative stories tend to be my go-to, I’m happy to watch almost anything. I enjoy cooking and baking (mostly vegetarian) when time allows. Other hobbies include making good coffee, self-hosting (a never-ending task), and both collecting and listening to music (two different things altogether, much like buying and reading books). Lately, getting to the gym more consistently has also been a goal.

I’m an active member of the Wikimedia community, though not as active as I’d like to be. I contribute edits, photographs, corrections, and translations whenever I can. My most-read contribution so far has been, for reasons unbeknownst to me, the Spanish article on the Gombe Chimpanzee War.

About the blog

Here I mostly write about software and integration. The blog itself is a personal project made using Astro. Every change requires me to open my terminal and git push, which in turn makes the project build and deploy on Cloudflare. Using WordPress would be easier, but here I can kinda do whatever.
